Ubuntu missing module error

"Missing module (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/<Your DRIVE UUID> doesnot exist. Dropping to a shell"

Most of you may have got similar error while updating Ubuntu from 9.04 to 9.10 or to 10.04. I’ve also faced similar problem while updating my ubuntu. After doing lots of researches I’ve got one solution to work.
The problem here is the Grub is getting updated to Grub2.
The solution to this problem is to lock the grub from getting updating
For this do the following steps.

  1. Open the “Synaptic Package Manager” from System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager.
  2. Select Grub from the list. (You can use the search box to get the grub)
  3. From the package menu, select “Lock Version”.

Thats all…!! Now the Grub won’t show such error message.
There is some other solutions for the above problem given in some forums. But for me none of them worked.

Please comment here about your experience of installing Ubuntu.
